NOCUPP Seeking Kessler Park Volunteers

North Oak Cliff United Police Patrol - NOCUPPThis just arrived in our in-boxes from Jerry Beech, President & KNU’s representative to North Oak Cliff United Police Patrol (NOCUPP). That’s the group that manages our neighborhood’s police patrol.

Half of NOCUPP’s membership is comprised of Kessler Park residents, and therefore Kessler Park receives half of the patrol time, resulting in a 50% drop in crime in our neighborhood. Likewise, there’s room for more Kessler Park residents to serve as volunteer representatives to NOCUPP’s board.

Here’s what Jerry had to say:

NOCUPP is always seeking new Kessler Park residents on its board. Kessler Park makes up half of NOCUPP’s total membership (and we get a proportional half of its patrol time). We really need some more Kessler Park members of NOCUPP to volunteer to be on NOCUPP’s board and to help keep NOCUPP running.

Kessler Park usually has 250 NOCUPP members so ideally we should have several people acting as neighborhood representatives on our board. It would be much nicer if we had three or even five KNU volunteers on the NOCUPP board as neighborhood representatives to help keep up with membership renewals, enter property forms into our database and responding to members inquiries, and we could also use several acting as executive board members.

NOCUPP was founded entirely by volunteers from Kessler Park and has grown from just Kessler 50 members to 250 members over the last 5 years (NOCUPP has also grown from just Kessler Park to seven neighborhoods and 480 members). With this larger membership we got more patrol time and crime decreased by more than 50% in Kessler Park, but we really could use some fresh volunteers to help keep NOCUPP running in the future. Kessler Park’s NOCUPP members also need to continue to be on the board so that our neighborhood continues to have a say in how NOCUPP operates.

I have loved serving you as Kessler Park ‘s NOCUPP representative for the last 3 years, and as President of NOCUPP for the last year, but my biggest concern for NOCUPP is making sure it is continues to be sustainable in the future. To do that we need Kessler members of NOCUPP on the all volunteer board especially now as some long standing NOCUPP volunteers have started to leave the NOCUPP board.

If you are interested in helping out and can make a commitment to a few hours a month to NOCUPP then please let me know and I will help you find a way to help NOCUPP.
